We are ready to start the ball rolling and we need both crew and talent to get these shows on the road!
Who will be getting your information and processing your application...
These two ladies are the heart of the casting process for ARIA. When
you send in your headshot/resume or other virtual casting data, the
first person you are likely to encounter is Casting Agent and
professional model (in Las Vegas) Janica Bess. Janica monitors our
casting email server and spends time on our social media platforms,
which was once done by our Hollywood agent, Jerrod Mackey. Jerrod now
spends more time in studio logistics, living right there and acting as
our company liaison for the major studios we are still tied to.
Especially with Amazon taking over MGM, and the changes that will
result in for world-wide production and distribution.
Janica is
easy going and will be quite helpful to those who do not have a lot of
experience in the industry. Because ARIA has its own in-house
professional level training program, new talent has the best shot of
getting somewhere fast joining up with ARIA at a professional level,
than with any other organization. The ARIA Film Lab placement rating
exceeds 80%.
Janica, being a full-time Las Vegas live event
model is NOT here at the studio and is more an agent and modeling
coordinator, not a film industry professional actor, so she does not
talk like the rest of us here. She is our way of staying in touch with
new acting and crew applicants and not overwhelm you with a lot of
professional film industry "lingo" that may just confuse the situation.
We found that to be an issue in the past.
At ARIA, we're trying
to help you be SUCCESSFUL. We actually WANT that for you. If YOU are
successful, then we are when we need to use your talents! ARIA tries to
do everything on a "win-win basis". So, Janica is there to get you
setup without the usual intimidation new talent might experience in
other settings.
From Janica's helpful assistance, you can end up
being routed to our long-time Casting Director, Geraldine Jazzborne
(she was formerly Geraldine Rivera of Team Rivera). As of August
(2025), "Geri" and our CEO Chase Jazzborne were married, and now they
run ARIA as a team effort. Geri is beleived to be the oldest working
Casting Director in the industry, at this point in time, and still
gung-ho about what she does.
Geri approaches casting with a
"soft touch". She will press what we need, but not beat you up for not
being the right fit, if you're just not. That's not your fault, is it?
If you need skill improvement, she'll refer you, not send you packing
without a solution, as long as you have the right attitude about it.
Geri has seen a LOT of "off the street people" get trained right into
professional level roles through the Film Lab, so she knows the
solution exists, and talent CAN have that career, once properly
trained. There is a reason Renegade, Silk Salkings, Pensacola, and a
whole bunch of other shows were able to cast from the San Diego Talent
Pool, rather than importing L.A. based talent. So, she'll work with you
to make that happen as we've always done it. |
ARIA's Professional Casting History...
When ARIA Motion Pictures began in 1994, to get the first
of our projects going we needed talent. Being in San Diego meant a shortage of
trained movie talent, so, we needed to cover most of the county for the few
available here.
Fortunately, ARIA’s president was a former student of the
Casting Society of America (CSA) under the late Barbara Claman from 1991 to
1994. Barbara had taught Chase to initially be her (and the CSA’s) eyes and
ears for casting in the San Diego area, in order to assist in the pre-casting
of movies based in Hollywood, that would be produced on location in San Diego.
This was how casting started for the San Diego based USA Network TV series:
Renegade, Silk Stalkings, and Pensacola: Wings of Gold, prior to ARIA’s
founding.
Once
ARIA started, Barbara decided to take Chase’s training to the next
level and finished off his education, making him an actual associated
Casting Agent (under her), as ARIA had plans to build a formal casting
pool, or, talent database… not only for internal needs, but to also
assist the San Diego Film Commission with a resource for all visiting
production companies. This partnership would put Barbara in the key
casting position for any company using the CSA for the casting of
productions coming to San Diego. By
1995, ARIA’s Casting Department was a full-fledged casting office, and
began the task of not only supplying visiting production entities with
a database of talent, but was formally contracted as the casting office
for may low-budget productions (those not using the CSA for casting
services). Due to the independent status of ARIA, and its location in
San Diego, Chase never became an official member of the CSA, but was
acknowledged as an official independent Casting Director. By
1996, ARIA had two more Casting Directors… Johnny and Geri Rivera, who
eventually became yet another independent Casting Office… “Team
Rivera”. With Barbara’s passing in 2019, and then Johnny in 2022, ARIA
Casting is now back “in house” with Casting Directors, Chase Jazzborne
and Geri Rivera (now Jazzborne), who are President and Senior Vice President of ARIA
Motion Pictures. With
ARIA’s re-birth here in 2025, ARIA will not only build a talent pool,
but once again announce it to the industry, and invite ALL productions
in San Diego to utilize the database, plus offer long experienced
expert casting services to any production entity, professional or even
just hobby projects.
